Thanks, John. It’s most gratifying to learn people from the literary camp find something worthwhile in these games. I especially recommend the sublime Portal, which is the first example I can point to as the game equivalent of a perfect short story–a form I have been wishing and expecting would emerge eventually, and which we had hoped Valve’s experiment in episodic publishing might promote. I can say this as someone who didn’t write a word of it: That’s pure Erik Wolpaw (of http://www.oldmanmurray.com).
Thank you for your great work on the HL2!
The story-telling is what makes the series for me.
Hl2:2 really shone in this regard for me because (possible SPOILERS) the central relationship developed nicely and naturally; and the feel of the group dynamic in the main base – even as a mute I felt like part of them rather than an observer.
I loved each and every one of the peripheral “base grunts” and spent ages wandering around trying to catch all their dialogue.
I wonder what proportion of HL2 players obsessively replay some of these levels to try and “save” each of these ephemeral recurring characters?
The new baddies work very well with a “japanese horror, intrusive tentacle nightmare” flavour.
Just wish it was twice as long! (not the tentacle, the game).
The cliffhangers and unanswered questions are going to have me on tenterhooks for the next 2 years.
Hi Marc, I was wondering if there is a way I can chat with you privately sometime about some ideas concerning quantum sci-fi ideas. I love your work and really understand the concepts your present when it comes to reality bending. If you have the time, please drop me a quick note at: tenshihan_quinn@yahoo.com
The HL2 series for me so far has been one of the most tastefully played out games I’ve yet experienced. Tasteful voice acting, beautifully subtle and intriguing story, and great pacing. Kudos!
I’m fond of telling people that one of my favorite things to do is re-read half-life and half-life 2.
So: Yay! More reading!
Thanks for your work on these.

I am a fan of HL Saga, your job in games maked a better experience in the history.
With you I feel secure that no continuation of Half-Life will spoil this feeling good.
I also hope subtitles in Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese Portugal is strange way and my English is very bad.
I am one of your many Brazilians fans.
Thank you… XD
Thanks, all of youse.
